The president of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari has declared his interest to look into the issue preventing the development of the Nigeria Delta in spite of the huge amount of money allocated to the region every year.
President Buhari stated his interest in Twitter on Thursday charging the National Assembly, the investigating and enforcement agencies to carry out their duties as expected.
Reiterating the commitment of his administration, he said: “I am determined to get to the root of the problem undermining the development of the Niger Delta, in spite of the enormous national resources dedicated to this annually.
“This administration remains committed to bringing rapid, even and sustainable development to the region.
“In line with this, I have made it clear to the National Assembly and our investigating and law enforcement agencies to pursue better coordination in their work, so that the shared goal of ensuring sanity, transparency and accountability of dedicated funds can be achieved.”
The Niger Delta region despite its abundant natural resources is and has been in a state of despair. The aborigines have continued to cry out as they lack the basic amenities leading to untold suffering.
