The Federal Ministry of Education Gives School Owners up to July 29th, 2020 to meet specific guidelines towards the reopening of schools at a date to be announced in due course.
In a statement signed by the Director of Information, Ben Bem Goong on Friday, July 17th, the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said the specific guidelines must be met before schools around the country can reopen.
These guidelines were put together after consultations with relevant stakeholders such as the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Center for Disease Control which began since last week Tuesday.
According to the minister, school owners are to prepare and comply with the guidelines.
Hon. Nwajiuba said, “schools are to undertake self-assessment and send feedback to State Ministries of Education not later than July 29th.
“Thereafter, consultations with relevant stakeholders will be held to review the situation and decide on a specific date for reopening or otherwise.”
Although Nigerians especially tertiary students have reacted negatively to the latest information, the Minister said the decision was necessary to ensure the safety of students and teachers.
