The Ministry of Health, Uganda has reported that 44 trucker drivers have tested positive for Coronavirus on Monday, May 18th, 2020.
According to the Ministry, 32 were foreign truck drivers who were tested at the border entry point for Coronavirus. All 32 have returned to their respective countries.
This is in accordance with the directives that ‘all truck drivers must undergo Covid-19 testing and must receive results before proceeding to immigration at the borders.’
However, 12 others were COVID-19 cases confirmed from 1,743 samples of Ugandan truck drivers.
The Ugandan truck drivers who tested positive were evacuated directly to hospitals. Also Read: Makinde States Foods Required to Prevent Covid-19
Samples had to be divided between UVRI and Ugandan National Health Laboratory Service for quick turn around time.
Testing at NHLS started at 7.30pm last evening. The results were later communicated via the ministry’s verified Twitter handle by 11: pm.
The total confirmed COVID-19 cases are now 260. Total recoveries are 63 as at Monday, May 18th, 2020.
