Kano State Govt. Frees Inmates

As part of President Mohammad Buhari’s directives to decongest the prisons, Kano State Governor, Umar Ganduje has freed prisoners imprisoned for lesser offence.

The inmates were released on Sunday, May 24th, 2020 at the Goron Dutse Correctional Facilities in Kano State.

Gov. Umar Ganduje wrote on his Twitter account: ‘In line with the Federal Government’s directive to decongest prisons, I visited the Goron Dutse Correctional Facility with Dr Nasiru Yusif Gawuna.

‘300 inmates on lesser charges were freed with their fines paid up by the state.’ Also Read: 57th Africa Day, Namibia President Applauds Africans

Ganduje said the idea was to reduce the population to avoid a viral outbreak.
