The Government of Uganda in collaboration with Uganda Ministry of Health stated that it will roll out distribution of 27.4 million free mosquito nets country wide beginning June 2020.
The Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said on Tuesday while presenting the health sector’s progress on the implementation of the NRM Manifesto 2020.
Aceng reported that the malaria prevalence in children under 5 years declined from 55% in 2009 to 17% in 2017.
Also she said that Uganda has established laboratory capacity at Uganda Virus Research Institute and National Public Health Laboratory at Butabika to diagnose and confirm outbreaks including COVID-19.
On radiotherapy, Aceng said that a new Cobalt-60 Radiotherapy Machine was commissioned.
In addition, the construction of 6 more radiotherapy bunkers to improve the radiotherapy services is ongoing.
