Nigerian Reggae Icon Majek Fashek Dies in New York

Send Down the Rain Singer, Majek Fashek, has died in his sleep in New York, his manager Omenka Uzoma announced in the Musician Instagram Page.

The manager, Uzoma Day Omenka confirmed the news on the singer’s Instagram page on Tuesday morning. According to him, he died 11.45 pm June 1, 2020, Nigerian time.

Writing on Instagram, Mr Uzoma said that this was “a time for us all to celebrate his achievements, his family and not mourn”.

Majek whose real name was Majekodunmi Fasheke, also worked with stars like Jimmy Cliff, Tracy Chapman and Snoop Dogg.

“He’s done a lot for Nigeria and Africa,” his manager said.

Information concerning his burial would be announced by his immediate family.
